Access

Our Main Theatre is fitted with an induction loop system for hearing aid users. In addition, we schedule in one BSL-interpreted performance for each of our own productions, usually on a Saturday or during school holidays. Check the calendar, or contact the Box Office for dates.

 Visually Impaired
Touch tours of the stage, the set and the actors for groups of visually-impaired visitors are available on request; publicity in large print can be made available; guide dogs are also welcome at the theatre.

Limited Mobility
Polka Theatre has step-free access from street level through its main entrance at the front of the building. Once in, there is step-free access to most parts of the building, including the Adventure Theatre, the café, the playground, the garden, the workshop, and the adapted toilet. The one exception is the Main Theatre, where visitors with limited mobility can use the lift. Polka also has one wheelchair for customers’ use.

Wheelchair Users
Both auditoria are wheelchair accessible. The Main Theatre can cater for up to 6 wheelchairs in the front row, to the right of the stage. The Adventure Theatre can cater for up to 2 wheelchairs. Power-assisted doors are also fitted in the theatre.

Toilets
An adapted toilet is located at the rear of the building.

Autism Friendly Performances

For our main house shows we offer one show in the schedule that is a Relaxed Performance.

Relaxed performances are specifically aimed to appeal to families with children who are on the autistic spectrum or have sensory sensitivities.  To prepare you for your visit to Polka we have put together a Picture information strip to help you prepare for your visit to the theatre and and a synopsis for each performance, this is to help you understand the story that you are about to see and to know what to expect during the performance. A 360 degree tour of the theatre, as well as photos of all our spaces, are available on our website should you need these in preparation for your visit to Polka.  On arrival you will be greeted by our friendly Front of house team who are there to support you on your visit.

We have adapted the show slightly by having fewer people watching the show and you can also choose which seat you sit in. We have lowered the sound levels and throughout the performance the auditorium will have the main lights dimmed instead of being in complete darkness. There is also a designated ‘chill out area’ outside the auditorium that can be used at any time throughout the show.

Please contact the Box Office on 020 8543 4888 for details of the next show or Lucia for further information.
